CV Vital Actions
1. Remember what your CV is for! It is not meant to just summarise your experience and qualifications. The purpose is to demonstrate your suitability for the advertised position. Read the job specification and tailor your CV accordingly.
2. Check spelling and grammar. In the initial stages, employers and recruiters need to reduce the candidate pool. Carelessness is a sure way to get yourself eliminated immediately. The amount of native English speakers who do not know how to use words such as effect/affect or lose/loose is quite shocking!
3. Make it attractive with modern text fonts (only one or two) and disciplined formatting, so that it is easy to read. A bit of colour, so that it stands out from the others, can be an asset, but don't overdo it!
4. Choose dynamic vocabulary that suggests enthusiasm and commitment and success - words like 'delivered', 'achieved', 'completed' are better than 'undertook', 'handled' etc.
